In turn this means the print machine will attempt to make up the missing information by spreading the ink, causing gaps and inconsistencies that will show the white base coat if printing onto dark garments. The issue is similar with fades, drop shadows and glows around designs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>What could be considered a transparency?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any aspect of the design that has reduced opacity (less than 100%)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any aspect of the design that has a faded edge\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drop Shadows\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Glows\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018See through\u2019 inks<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>How to know if your file is transparent\/has transparent elements:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Canva users head toC anva&#8217;s help centre\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/en_gb\/help\/transparency\/#:~:text=On%20the%20toolbar%20above%20the,drag%20the%20slider%20to%20adjust.\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0for guidence. If you\u2019re using photoshop, just turn off the background layer by clicking the small eye icon in the layers window.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-405\" src=\"https:\/\/support.amcustomclothing.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Eye-Icon.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"203\" height=\"55\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are able to see the checkered canvas behind your image, then it\u2019s transparent.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alternatively you can place an image underneath your graphic, if you can see the background through it, it\u2019s transparent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the example below the blue half circle is our design with a transparency. You can see both the background and\u00a0checkered canvas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-406\" src=\"https:\/\/support.amcustomclothing.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Transparent-DTG-Graphic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"944\" height=\"430\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the example below the blue circle is our design without a transparency. This is how we need your artwork.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-407\" src=\"https:\/\/support.amcustomclothing.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Solid-DTG-Graphic-Opacity.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"938\" height=\"430\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Can I have faded edges on graphics?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In short, no. Faded edges require a transparency, and are therefore subject to the same issues as above.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We suggest you create a solid file and then use halftones. Halftones simulate the gradient like effect through the use of dots, varying either in size or in spacing. You can see an example of a halftone compared to a gradient below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-410\" src=\"https:\/\/support.amcustomclothing.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Half-Tones2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"213\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Halftones allow us to print solid coloured dots, with a base coat under them, recreating the gradient or fade effect without the issues that occur with transparencies. You&#8217;ll find a really good and simple guide from <em>Go Media<\/em> on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gomedia.com\/zine\/tutorials\/how-to-halftone-photos-design-tip-of-the-week\/\">how to convert your artwork to halftones here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the image below using a blue circle as an example, we can see the type of faded edges that should be avoided.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-408\" src=\"https:\/\/support.amcustomclothing.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Faded-Edges-DTG-Graphic.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"942\" height=\"430\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Can I use transparencies for anything?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transparent files will work onto white garments, providing there is no white in the image. If there is any white in your image, the print machine will automatically lay down a white base, and you\u2019ll be back to square one with transparency issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><b>Transparencies in action<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lets take a look at what happens when a transparency is used onto dark garments<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Kornit machines we use will process your artwork file\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A white underbase layer will be printed\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A colour layer is printed on top of the white base layer\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where there is a transparency in the design the printer will automatically place down a white base layer; as it\u2019s designed to put a base coat down underneath any part of the design (to ensure it shows up well on a coloured t-shirt).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So you may start with a design like the one below, which fades to transparent:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-411\" src=\"https:\/\/support.amcustomclothing.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Transparency-Text-DTG.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"261\" height=\"184\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019d imagine it to come out like the example on the left image below, however, the reality is due to the white base coat it would come out like the design on the right, with a large amount of white showing through.
